Leaders’ Training Module 2

A spiritual leader must be competent at handling Scripture. As Paul says to Timothy, the Word of God “is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Leadership that doesn’t bring God’s Word to bear on people’s lives merely dispenses human wisdom; it’s the Word of God that is “living and active” and able to transform lives (Hebrews 4:12). This module is about digging deeper into the great themes of Scripture, helping us understand what the Bible story is all about.

It’s also a module about theology. That needn’t be a word that scares us. Learning theology is simply the process of learning to think “Christianly”. Of course, the most important influence on how we think should be God’s Word, and that is why theology must never be separated from the Bible.

The core texts for this module are two books by Michael Reeves: The Good God and Christ Our Life. The module begins with some concentrated reading of The Good God before the first cohort meeting on 9th May.
